Material List:
2mm Close Cell foam
Barred rubber legs
Goose biot
Pheasant Tail fibers
Polypropylene Floating Yarn
Dubbing
Daiichi 1167 Klinkhamer Hook size 8 and 10
Step by step tying instructions:
Prepare a sewing needle.. wind in some thread
Cut 2 pcs of 2mm close cell foam about 6mm width, tie in at the end
Tie in 2 pcs of goose biot
Pull over the foam, wind in the 1st segment
Now fold over the biot, tie down at the segment… this will be the tail
Wind in a few more segment, at the last segment, tie down tight..
Remove the abdomen portion, tie down to the hook, then prepare a thread base on the hook shank
Tie down the bottom layer foam to the hook
Tie down the barred rubber legs, the legs should be same length with the abdomen
Dub in some dubbing, so the dubbing will push the legs toward the back
Tie down the foam
Cut the foam to 3 section… keep the middle section slightly bigger
Tie in 2 portion of floating yarn
Tie down the yarn, trim the extra. Tie in another foam about 4mm width
Tie in the rubber legs
Dub in some dubbing to split the legs
Trim the legs, and fold over the center foam, tie down
fold over the side foam and tie down, trim the foam
( The reason I have the yard split to 2 portion is you can have the option of a spent wing or close wing Stonefly when fishing )
Use a needle to bring 2 Pheasant tail fiber thru the foam to create the antenna
Fold over the foam, tie down to create the head
Drop a small drop of Gel Glue, tie down the foam as thorax… trim the foam
Drop some Loon hard head as eye… and the Stonefly X is ready to fly
