
Mantis Candy
There was many mantis pattern out there… but looking at the pictures of mantis, most of there are colourful… this started to put me to think… will the fishes respond to colourful pattern. I have this crazy Ideas of clourful pattern, 1st tested with colourful nymph pattern on our Golden Mahseer and notice that significant respond from the river fishes.. Now I need to test how saltwater fish respond on colourful saltwater pattern. So… here is the colourful mantis pattern which have great success on many species in Maldives recently.

Material List:
Eye – Mono eye
Antenna – Black Crystal flash
Legs – Sili legs and rubber legs![]()
Body – Semperfli suede Chenille![]()
Superfine dubbing mixed with Extra fine UV dubbing![]()
Weighing – white lead dumbbell eye![]()
Picture step by step tying instruction:

Put in the hook, and get ready to prepare a thread base

Using the suede chenille to widen the body

some are you will need to tie double with the suede chenille

You will notice that a taper body is created

Tie in the mono eye

Tie in the black Crystal Flash as antenna

Tie in the extra fine UV dubbing

You can also tie in some orange colour dubbing if you wish

Now tie in the pink poly-yarn

Tie in the 1st pair of sili-legs

Turn the hook over and tie in the biots as the tail

Tie in the thin skin

Tie in the 0.2mm Tying wire

Now tie in the 3 pairs of legs

Mixed the superfine dubbing with the UV dubbing to the colour you like, then wind in on to create the body

Bring the thin skin over and tie it down

Trim the extra thin skin

Wind in the tying wire

Trim the wire and whip finished

Brush of pick out some dubbing

The Mantis Candy is ready

By playing with different colour of dubbing… you can tie all the candy to match the mantis in your place..
