Foam Terrestrial
This is a simple foam terrestrial pattern that can be adjust and modify to suit most terrestrial pattern for example, Hopper, Cricket, Adult Stonefly, Cicada or Wasp / Bees
I’ve been fishing with this pattern in Borneo and the Golden Mahseer just love it.
Material List:
Hook – Dohiku 302 size 6-8
Body – Semperfli Booby tube Foam 6mm
Dubbing – Semperfli Poly-yard or High Floating Yarn
Legs – Rubber Legs
Wings – Heckles
Antenna – Black Flashabou
1.5mm thick Yellow Foam sheet
Thread – Nano Silk 12/0 and Floro Bright Orange from Semperfli
Picture step by step tying instruction:
Wind in some bright colour thread as hot spot, here I use Semperfli Floro Bright orange thread
Tie in 12/0 Nano silk after the hot spot
Trim the edge of the Booby tube foam, then shape it with lighter… Tie it on to the hook
Use a needle, bring the black flashabou thru the foam
Tie down the flashabou and the foam
Tie in the rubber legs
Tear some poly-yarn or High Floating yard from Semperfli… use that as your dubbing
Use needle to bring in the heckles as the wing… tie them down
Now tie in the legs at both side
Now dub in some poly yarn or high floating yard… I like to use pink colour yarn here as the Golden Mahseer seems to love this colour
Tie in the foam sheet as your marker / tag
I use yellow foam as it’s the brightest and easy to spot your fly
Trim the foam and the terrestrial pattern is ready

Tips for fishing this pattern… apply some floaten to the wings and dubbing.. this will make the fly float higher… and tuck the fly hard to the water…many times, the take is immediately once the fly hit the water so keep your rood tip low and be prepare for the strike.
